Ipil (Subanen:Miho G'benwa Ipil/Mihogbenwa Ipil, Cebuano:Lungsod sa Ipil, Spanish/Chavacano: Municipalidad de Ipil) is a 1st class municipality in the province of Zamboanga Sibugay, Philippines. It is the capital municipality of Zamboanga Sibugay. In 2010, it has a population of 63,786 people in 12,514 households.

Center of Learning

Ipil has become the center of learning in Sibugay Province. UZ-Universidad de Zamboanga Ipil Campus, provides Education for Service and Everyone with the Vision to be a premier educational institution providing quality education, training and technological services that is accessible and relevant to all in support of regional, national and international development. Marian College, under the Diocese of Ipil, continues its expansion with the opening of more courses. There is also a branch of the Western Mindanao State University – Extension Campus recently offers law courses. The venerable Aurelio Mendoza Memorial College, formerly Lyceum, continuous to provide quality education. Universidad de Zamboanga has also gained a foothold in town. The Marcelo Spinola School and Ipil Grace Christian School must also be mentioned for their quality. Several technical schools have also opened in Ipil. Latest of these is the Sibugay Technical Institute, offering a license in caregiving, the first in the province. Other educational institutions are the following: MindanaoStateUniversity-Ipil, Medina College-Ipil, Zamboanga del Sur Technical Institute. The Zamboanga del Sur Technical Institute (ZTI) is located at National Hi-Way, Barangay Sanito, Ipil, Zamboanga Sibugay and is offering PGMA Scholarship for the Shielded Metal Arc Welding, Consumer Electronics,etc.

Economy

Leaving behind its tragic past, Ipil is fast gaining a reputation as a viable business center. Jollibee Foods Corporation, a fastest growing food business chain in the country, saw the potential in the town that opened its first outlet in the province. Dunkin Donuts, recognizing the same opportunities, is now working on its business permit to operate in town. The town is sprawled with construction sites – buildings rising to offer commercial space, quality services, and a variety of goods. The proposed integrated bus terminal is expected to bring in even more business into town to complement the now existing commercial center in Poblacion. Ipil’s Pasalubong Center (burnt on March 2006 transferred to a new site fronting jollibee) sells locally-made products and items. This center was renovated last year after the public market moved to its new location in Don Andres, just a few hundred meters away.

Amenities

As the capital of Sibugay Province, Ipil has a number of hotels and pension houses, with Sibugay Grand Plaza Hotel is considered as the premier hotel in town. It has a discothèque called The Underground, several function rooms, and a ballroom. Fortune Hotel is located right in the heart of the town proper, conveniently located near the municipal hall and the De Villa Hospital. Just recently opened Ipil Green Resort is located near boundary of Ipil and Titay.

Montebello Bar and Restaurant offers classy, good food. Roderick Resort’s Barbecue Plaza has an outdoorsy ambience. Food is served on tables scattered along a manicured lawn around the pool. There are also huts for “barkadas” out on an evening of beer drinking. The Sanito river, running right along the picnic ground, is a most scenic attraction. Other eating places worth visiting are Kasita’s Grille in Ipil Heights and nearby Kamayan.

Ipil’s Barbecue Center, a collection of stalls that opens only in the evenings, specializes in roast chicken. It comes served with hanging rice and a bowl of soup.

Communications & Related Industries

The town has telephone (Landline:PLDT; Mobile: Smart, Globe Telecommunications and Sun Cellular) and internet centers. Several radio stations are operating in the area: DXMG-FM and Radyo ng Bayan, Magic 103 FM, 94.3 dxIR FM, dxDS FM, Igsoon FM, and Radyo Lipay AM; several newspapers are published here, including the Zamboanga Sibugay Tribune and the Sibugay Express.

Ipil is located 3 hours from the key cities in the region (Dapitan City, Dipolog City, Pagadian City and Zamboanga City), the provincial government is rehabilitating the feeder airport in Sanito to accommodate wide-body aircraft from abroad. The Ipil seaport is 4 kilometres (2 mi) south of downtown, Sulpicio Lines is plying the route Zamboanga - Ipil and vice versa.

Ipil also has a local printing industry. Sibex Printers and Alfred Printers & Supplies Corporation offer various printing services and solutions to the Ipil community.

Zamboanga Sibugay Provincial Hospital and three other private hospitals Dr.Henry DeVilla Memorial Hospital, M.Simon Hospital and Ipil Doctor's Hospital.

Financial Institutions

Majority of the commercial banks in the country have branches in Ipil – Banco de Oro(BDO), Rizal Commercial Banking Corporation(RCBC), Development Bank of the Philippines(DBP), Land Bank of the Philippines, Allied Bank and Metropolitan Bank and Trust Company(Metrobank)-Soon to open. Rural banks such as One Network Bank, Banco Dipolog(Rural Bank of Dipolog).
